(http://www.varonis.com), the leading provider of comprehensive data governance software, has found that 67% of respondents say that senior management in their organizations either don’t know where all company data resides or are not sure. Recent reports that Glasgow Council is writing to more than 37,000 businesses and people, notifying them of the loss of their data – including business and personal bank details – on two laptops stolen from the council’s office last month, shows that ICO penalties are failing to hit home in the public sector, says Cryptzone.

According to Grant Taylor, UK Vice President of the European threat mitigation specialist, the data held on the laptops was not encrypted, yet it also included the bank account details of more than 6,000 people and 10,000 companies.
