Telford, England, 2nd September 2008 - GETAC Inc., a leading, specialist rugged mobile computer manufacturer, has today unveiled details of its new B300 fully rugged notebook that has been designed to resist salt erosion in and around oceanic and coastal environments. The B300 is the ideal mobile computing solution for military installations, marine applications such as the Coastguard and other industries where salt or salt air can impact equipment performance. The new B300 meets MIL-STD-810F 509.4, making it resistant to the corrosion effects, electrical effects and physical effects generated by one of the most pervasive chemical compounds in the world – salt. It adopts a special coating that prevents salt fog from directly contacting with the magnesium alloy casing. In addition, its unique air-tight mechanical design and sealed I/O ports eliminate the possibility of salt erosion to the internal components, in particular the motherboard, one of the most delicate components in a computer. Stainless steel screws are used as these too provide excellent protection against salt fog erosion. The launch of the B300 is set to revolutionise the way mobile computers are used in and around salt water environments.
The GETAC B300 also features a revolutionary Sunlight-Readable LCD display of 1200cd/msq (optional), the most advanced Sunlight Readable Technology currently available. Illuminated by LEDs, GETAC Sunlight Readable Technology uses an active anti-reflective process to block reflected light to dramatically increase visibility under the brightest conditions. Utilizing this technology, the B300 display is able to achieve the highest brightness without putting a strain on the computers performance or battery life. Also for extended use, the B300 offers a 12 hour battery life with its onboard 9 cell battery making it ideal for use in environments where a power source is unavailable.
MIL-STD-3009 compliant, the B300 is the first rugged notebook with ‘Night Vision’ mode, meaning the screen can be seen when wearing night vision goggles. A Black-Out mode is also included allowing users to easily turn off all lights to avoid being conspicuous in darkened conditions and exposing a current location. These unique features make the B300 the ideal solution for military and law enforcement sectors.
Both IP54 and MIL-STD-810F compliant, the B300 has been designed to allow it to be taken into inhospitable environments and harsh weather conditions. It’s hard wearing magnesium alloy case makes it resilient to drops and hard knocks and a shock mounted HDD protects against data loss during unexpected drops, vibration or if shock occurs. Sealed I/O caps and doors prevent solid particles and moisture such as dust, rain and spillages from entering the unit as well as providing Salt Fog protection.
The B300 also boasts advanced connectivity capabilities. It includes, as standard, Wireless 802.11a/g/n LAN connectivity and Bluetooth V2.0 whilst offering an array of further upgrade wireless connectivity facilities such as 3G and GPS to ensure users always remain connected wherever they may be.
The launch of the B300 sees GETAC underline its philosophy of providing innovative rugged mobile solutions that are built to survive.
