News Release: Cummins Westport wins first order in China outside of Beijing

Cummins Westport Inc., a joint venture of Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CUM) of Columbus, Indiana, and Westport Innovations Inc. (TSX:WPT) of Vancouver, B.C., announced today that it has won its first order for natural gas bus engines in China outside of Beijing.

The order from the Xining Transit Company is for 10 B5.9-230G low- emissions natural gas engines to be installed in double-decker buses. The buses will be manufactured by Ankai Chassis of Hefei, Anhui Province, and the Nanjing Jinling Double Decker Factory of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The engines will be delivered in November this year and the buses will be delivered early next year. "While this order is not large in terms of units, it is an important milestone for Cummins Westport," says Cummins Westport President Hugh Foden. "It shows we can compete on cost, reliability and performance not just in Beijing but across China, a very large potential market. The strong service and support network that Cummins has across China is proving to be very valuable to us as we expand our sales efforts outside of Beijing."

Mr. Foden said orders for Cummins Westport engines in Beijing had largely been driven by Beijing's need to improve air quality ahead of the 2008 Olympics. The Beijing Transportation Company has ordered 200 B5.9G engines for use in double-decker tourist buses over the past year, 140 of which are now in commercial service.

"We have recently been aggressively expanding our market focus to include cities in China apart from Beijing and also South East Asia. These efforts are beginning to pay off."

The City of Xining is located in the North-Western Province of Qinghai and currently runs a fleet of 800 buses, most of which are powered by engines converted from running on gasoline to run on natural gas. The B5.9G engines on order will be installed in new buses replacing older ones in the fleet that are being retired.

Cummins Inc. is a global power leader in engines, electrical power generation systems and related technologies. Westport Innovations is the leading developer of natural gas fuel systems for diesel engines. Cummins Westport Inc., formed in 2001, develops and markets low-emissions alternative fuel vehicle engines manufactured by Cummins.

Note: This news release contains forward-looking statements about Cummins and Westport business and technology development plans based on the current expectations of management of both companies. Cummins and Westport caution investors that due to risks and uncertainties, actual events may differ materially from current expectations.
