News Release: WDI Smart Check Selected for World Health Organization - Malaria Program

World Diagnostics, Inc. (WDGI OTC-BB), a rapidly emerging global provider of medical diagnostic tests and specialized laboratory products for the international marketplace, announced today that its Smart Check MalariaTest received a perfect score of 100% sensitivity and specificity, thereby qualifying for the "Roll Back Malaria" program which has been accelerated by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) to address the growing Malaria crisis that grips Southern Africa each fall during the rainy season commencing in October. WDI's Smart Check Malaria Test has now been approved by W.H.O. based on studies completed in June 2002 in Harare, Zimbabwe, W.H.O. headquarters for this project. Additional studies were conducted in Zambia, Mozambique, Angola, and Uganda. The W.H.O. contract is due to start in the fall of 2002, to coincide with the Rift Valley rainy season in Southern Africa. This area comprises the countries named above, with a total population of almost 120 million people. Malaria rates of infection during the rainy season are endemic for three to four months. Management of inventory will be handled by Plaza Diagnostics, WDI's distributor in Zimbabwe.

"The expected volume of screening devices is forecasted to be in excess of 500,000 tests this fall. WDI will definitely be a significant supplier in the program and, while we cannot predict what this could mean in revenues, it is likely that WDI will become a primary supplier for this program," said Basil Psarros, Managing Director for Plaza Diagnostics.

The "Roll Back Malaria" project is an effort to provide more cost effective health care to regions affected seasonally by Malaria outbreaks. Many medical disorders at this time of the year often exhibit symptoms similar to Malaria. W.H.O. believes the expense of each patient treatment, approximately $10 USD, could be reserved for persons truly infected with Malaria by screening for non-Malaria infected persons via a rapid diagnostic device at a cost of $1.00 USD. Such testing could save hundreds of thousands of dollars thereby expanding existing current budgets.
