News Release: Tri-Vision licenses U.S. patent to Funai - 10th manufacturer to license V.gis(TM) V-chip

Tri-Vision International Ltd./Ltee (TSX:TVL) today announced that it has signed its sixth non-exclusive license for its United States Patent 5,828,402 to Funai Corporation Inc. Funai is one of Japan's largest manufacturers of televisions exported to the U.S. market. The agreement covers all television sets made by Funai and is valid through the expiration of the patent in 2016 and requires both parties keep the settlement terms confidential. To date, licensees of the Tri-Vision V.gis V-chip include Sony, Sharp, Sanyo, Hitachi, Hansol Multimedia, Pioneer, LG Electronics, Funai and others.

More than 30-million TV sets are sold every year in the United States alone. As the U.S. TV marketplace is rapidly changing from analogue to digital, Tri-Vision believes its v-chip technology will become the industry standard for v-chip in the digital environment throughout North America and the world. Tri-Vision is of the opinion that all television manufacturers selling product in Canada and the U.S. will license its V.gis(TM) V-chip Technology.

Licensing negotiations continue with manufacturers for both Canadian and U.S. patents. Tri-Vision continues its licensing process using its unique strength of downloadability or "open v-chip" in both its U.S. and Canadian Patents. Downloadability is one of the requirements described in Digital TV specification documents, specifically in the Advanced Television Systems Committee ATSC A/65-A standard, the Electronics Industry Alliance 766-A standard and EIA Engineering Bulletin CEB12.
