CTIA Wireless, Atlanta, 23 March 2004 – Customers of Indian network operator BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) can enjoy international GSM mobile communications roaming capabilities following the implementation of an innovative solution from roaming experts Roamware Inc. of California. Visitors to India will now also be able to use GSM services provided by BSNL. Today, it is crucial for network operators to offer international roaming services in order to compete effectively in attracting the corporate customer and other frequent travellers, as well as providing the expected level of services to visiting inbound roamers.

Gaining a viable number of partner networks via bilateral agreements is a lengthy process, especially for the smaller independent operators. The Roamware solution allows BSNL to offer instant roaming capability to its customers via the strategic partnerships between Roamware and the sponsor network. Roamware’s Roaming Replicator solution remains in place until BSNL has signed an appropriate number of bilateral agreements and can offer stand-alone services.

With the implementation of the Roaming Replicator, BSNL subscribers travelling outside India can enjoy voice, fax and data services, including SMS text messaging, in over 170 countries. The roaming service is available to both post-paid and prepaid customers. Inbound roamers from over 275 networks worldwide will be able to seamlessly access the same services.
