In support of choice and providing enterprises with the most cost effective speech platform, Aculab has announced support for Microsoft Speech Server

24th March 2004, Milton Keynes, UK - Coinciding with the rollout of Microsoft Speech Server 2004, Aculab today announced that they will be providing a port, which will enable Aculab’s computer telephony hardware to operate with Speech Server. With a wider range of underlying computer telephony technology available to support Speech Server, developers will have more choice in the functionality and features they select. Application developers can then base their speech solutions on the most appropriate standards based technology to suit their customers’ needs, whether it be on a price, size or feature basis.

Aculab has first hand experience of the significant increases in ROI that speech has brought to enterprises – a direct result of numerous speech recognition and text-to-speech deployments based on Aculab technology. In support of Microsoft’s initiative to make speech affordable and accessible to more enterprises, Aculab’s inclusion within Microsoft’s ecosystem will help ensure this objective is achieved.

Aculab’s software will allow Microsoft Speech Server to operate with Aculab’s media processing resources and digital network access portfolio. Whilst the software will remain relatively hidden from application developers and enterprises alike, it brings the advantage of Aculab’s broad portfolio of worldwide protocols and media processing resources, together in a cost effective single card solution.

“Aculab has always endeavoured to provide customers with choice. Allowing the Speech Server to run with Aculab hardware achieves this objective by providing customers and prospects with an ‘application development ready’ alternative,” said Faye Matthews Head of Strategic Marketing. “In addition, members of the Microsoft ecosystem, such as value-added resellers (VARs) and systems integrators (SIs), stand to benefit from Aculab’s expertise and experience in speech automation technology. This is available through a range of support services including technical consultancy, technical support, training and marketing.”

“Aculab’s support for Microsoft Speech Server reinforces our commitment to providing the most integrated, flexible and cost-effective speech platform available for medium to large enterprises interested in reaping the significant business value of speech technology,” said Xuedong Huang, general manager for the Microsoft Speech Server group at Microsoft. “Application developers and enterprises will have the ability to select the best tools depending on enterprises’ particular requirements, while VARs and SIs will be able to more greatly differentiate their offerings.”
