Virtual Network Operator provides global roaming access for 1000 users

Weybridge, Surrey – 3rd March 2004 – Sirocom, one of the UK’s leading Virtual Network Operators (VNO) announced today that it has signed a contract with Reed Elsevier, a world leading publisher and information provider, to manage some of its global roaming and remote access needs. Sirocom will provide the managed service to more than 1,000 roaming and remote access users working in the UK at the company’s Science & Medical Division, Elsevier. Sirocom was chosen because of its experience and understanding of the secure remote access needs of such a dispersed and dynamic organisation. In addition, Sirocom’s unique online suite of service and network administration tools, FlexiVision™, was a key factor in differentiating Sirocom from some of the world’s largest network operators and managed services companies who were also vying for the deal.

Elsevier’s roaming workers will gain access through the intuitive iPassConnect™ client, powered by iPass’ virtual network of over 20,000 global access points, using any access media of dial-up PSTN, ISDN, Broadband; Wi-Fi hotspots, and mobile data services. iPass’ Global Broadband Roaming network recently surpassed 5,000 active broadband access points, including Wi-Fi hotspots in more than 3,600 business-oriented venues in 30 countries.

Jim McGuiness, Director of Architecture, Planning and Operations at Reed Elsevier said:
‘Sirocom are clearly specialists in the remote access arena, and demonstrated an in-depth understanding of our business requirements.

FlexiVisionTM was a crucial factor that distinguished Sirocom from other providers, giving us the ability to manage and administer our remote users quickly and easily. It is great to be able to take control and be more reactive to the company’s and our users’ requirements.’

Chief Executive Officer at Sirocom, Simon Rogan said.
‘We are delighted to provide our remote access services to a company of Reed Elsevier’s standing. They are a first class global company and deserve a first class service. Once again FlexiVisionTM has made the difference, giving Reed Elsevier the functionality that they require.’

The managed service contract is for an initial period of 2 years, with plans to extend the service to other Reed Elsevier divisions in the future.
