News Release: Tri-Vision licenses V-chip to Panasonic and JVC

Tri-Vision International Ltd./Ltee (TSX:TVL) today announced that it has signed a non-exclusive license with MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO., LTD. (Japan) and VICTOR COMPANY OF JAPAN LTD. (Japan) for its Canadian Patent 2,179,474 and an option to license its US Patent 5,828,402. The agreement covers all television sets and other electronic equipment, which uses or may use v-chip in the future, produced for sale in Canada through the expiration of the patent in 2016. An announcement will be made if and when the US portion of the contract is activated.

The Panasonic and JVC agreements are the 18th and 19th licenses awarded. A number of leading consumer electronics manufacturers have recognized the substantial value of the Collings Patents and the technology described in them. As a result Sony Electronics Inc. USA, Hitachi America Ltd. USA, Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. Japan, Pioneer Corporation Japan, Sharp Corporation Japan, Orion America Inc. USA, Philips The Netherlands, LG Electronics Inc. Korea, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Korea, Funai Electric Co. Japan, Apex Digital Inc. USA, Hansol Multimedia Inc. Korea, Eastern Asia Technology Ltd. Taiwan and many others have entered into license agreements with Tri-Vision to use Professor Collings'invention. Tri-Vision also expects to conclude license agreements with additional television manufacturers in the near future.

The unique downloadable, field updateable V-chip described in the Tri-Vision Patents, also known as 'open v-chip', is a requirement in Digital TV specification documents including the Advanced Television Systems Committee ATSC A/65B and A/54A standards, the Electronics Industry Alliance 766-A standard and CEA Engineering Bulletin CEB12A.
