Zynetix today announces comprehensive support for the ip.access Oyster 3G femtocell on the class-leading Zynetix softMSC™ 2G/3G core and on the new Zynetix MobileHub™.
For mobile operators looking to deploy small volumes of femtocells - typically tens to hundreds of units – the Zynetix solution facilitates an accelerated roll-out using either the on-premise Zynetix MobileHub™ or using the Zynetix softMSC™ 2G/3G core. Either way, operators can begin initial deployments of 3G and HSDPA femtocell services without having to invest in significant upgrades to their own core network. And for operators without existing 3G capabilities, the Zynetix solutions provide an extremely cost-effective entry point for supporting WCDMA devices and 3G USIMs with the ip.access Oyster femtocell.
Two variants of the Zynetix MobileHub™ are available immediately. A small router-sized version with Intel architecture processor, which supports both the ip.access 2G nanoGSM picocell and the ip.access 3G Oyster femtocell, and an even smaller mini-router version with ARM processor which supports just the Oyster femtocell. Both units can be configured with SIP breakout for voice calls and either a local or remote GGSN for high speed packet data (HSDPA).
Developed in response to public & private customers’ requirements for a smaller, readily deployable 3G core which support Oyster femtocells, these products reinforces Zynetix position at the forefront of this sector.
As an alternative to buying the Zynetix softMSC™ or the MobileHub™, the Zynetix Managed Core Services (MCS) enables the Oyster femtocell to be connected via IP backhaul, such as ADSL, directly to a hosted softMSC™. In this scenario, Zynetix provides a complete managed solution including all necessary interconnects as well as provisioning and monitoring.
The addition of 3G support significantly enhances the value of the widely-deployed Zynetix softMSC™. Commenting on the announcement, Zynetix CEO Ian Taylor said “With the recent launch of the Vodafone Access Gateway and announcements from AT&T and others, interest in femtocells is now coming from mobile operators of all sizes. With the launch of the Zynetix MobileHub™ and support for the ip.access Oyster femtocell in the Zynetix softMSC™, operators can now begin trial or small scale deployments quickly, easily and with minimum or no disruption to their existing networks.”
