LONDON, UK October 31, 2008 – Movirtu, the supplier of innovative rural network infrastructure solutions for mobile operators located in emerging markets, today announced that it has been selected as a Top Innovator by the GSM Association (GSMA) as part of its 2009 Mobile Innovation Global Award Competition – APAC Tournament, which is being held at the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress in Macau, China in November. The GSMA’s Mobile Innovation Global Award Competition recognizes breakthrough technology, applications and services in the global mobile industry by showcasing companies developing innovative products and solutions. Movirtu has been selected as one of three finalists in the Most Innovative “True Mobile Start Up” category.
Movirtu was selected from a list of top global innovators reviewed by senior executives from mobile operators, technology and venture capital organizations, and has been invited to present its unique MXShare™ product at the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress, 18-20 November 2008 in Macau, China.
MXShare enables subscribers who cannot afford to buy a handset to own a virtual phone account with their own telephone number and access their phone services using other people’s mobile phone handsets.
“We are privileged to be recognised by the GSMA as a Top Innovator,” said Nigel Waller, CEO of Movirtu. “Movirtu is committed to delivering technology and social innovation that can enable basic phone services for over one billion people at the bottom of the Pyramid and this further demonstrates the leadership and vision of the company in this space.”
