Regional Bank Chooses Rapport Secure Web Access Service for Enhanced Online Security

BOSTON, July 13, 2011 – Trusteer, the leading provider of secure web access services, today announced that Tompkins Financial Corporation has selected the Trusteer Rapport secure web access service to provide customers of its three community banks with an extra layer of security against fraud when using its retail and business online banking applications.  Tompkins Financial selected the Rapport service for its cost effectiveness and ease of implementation. In addition, Tompkins will be using the Trusteer Situation Room intelligence service, which provides real-time information on new attacks aimed at the bank’s customers, to take counter measures against zero-day threats.

“Providing secure Internet banking is a top priority at our three community banks and Trusteer Rapport complements our strong security measures while also maintaining a user interface that is easy to install, use, and adapts to changing customer needs,” said Richard W. Page, Jr., senior vice president and CTO of Tompkins Financial.  Page added, “Trusteer Rapport provides transparent security that does not require any change in customer behavior, and is extremely easy to distribute and deploy via a simple download. The fact that customers can activate this through a simple download without intervention from our IT staff was extremely attractive to us.”

Secure Internet Banking without Hardware

To protect online banking sessions from sophisticated Trojans like Zeus, SpyEye, Bugat, and others that can hijack a user’s browser, Trusteer Rapport implements a completely new approach that locks down the browser and creates a tunnel for safe communication with the protected website. It also blocks phishing attacks using website authentication to ensure that account credentials are only passed to genuine sources. Trusteer Rapport:

  • Deploys in seconds via a short Internet download, compared to shipping devices that each require IT assisted phone activation
  • Has low administration costs, since there is no end user intervention needed by IT staff
  • Imposes zero changes on end-user machines, since it does not require administrator rights to function
  • Is a lower capital cost alternative since it does not require any hardware

“Financial institutions like Tompkins Financial need advanced solutions to protect their online banking customers and applications that can be easily implemented and managed,” said Rakesh Loonkar, president of Trusteer. “Tompkins chose Trusteer Rapport because it is cost effective to distribute and activate, is transparent to users, and is unique in its ability to provide valuable real-time intelligence that can be used to shut down attacks.”
