The International Trade Awards 2009, sponsored by HSBC are now open for entries and are looking for exceptional importers and exporters from across the UK to take part. Now in their third year these are the only national business awards in the UK that exclusively recognise the success achieved by the UK’s leading exporters and importers.

Despite the challenges posed by current global economic conditions, UK companies are still competing on the international stage and the International Trade Awards celebrate these ventures and successes. The awards recognise excellence among businesses of all sizes, and across all sectors, including awards for innovation, small-to-medium sized business and the overall ‘International Trade Company of the Year’.

Companies from across the UK will battle it out in 12 regional heats to win a place at the final, which will be held at the House of Lords in March 2010.

Stuart Nivison, HSBC Head of Trade and Supply Chain, Europe said: “As a major global financial services organisation, HSBC is delighted to support these important awards as they enter the third year. Importers and exporters make a significant contribution to the UK economy and we feel it is important to recognise their hard work and success.

“We continue to see many businesses across the UK adapt their business models to make the most of international opportunities, particularly during these difficult economic times. It is the companies that can adapt in this way that will not only survive but will thrive over time. We are proud to be able to recognise and support organisations that expand their horizons; they are a testament to the range of businesses operating successfully in this challenging climate.”

Entering the awards gives businesses the opportunity to reflect on their achievements, gain a more critical view of their operations and publicise their success. By giving themselves the recognition they deserve importers and exporters from across the UK will be able to acknowledge key staff contributions, gain an edge on competitors, increase their business profile and open the door to new business opportunities.

Mark Halstead, chief executive, James Halstead Plc, the 2008 International Trade Award winners said: “We were delighted with our win at the International Trade Awards last year and encourage other businesses to enter. The award recognised the success of our exports and international offices. In these challenging times it is often ignored that there are many UK firms that successfully manufacture and export to overseas markets and we are an example of what can be achieved.”

The International Trade Awards sponsored by HSBC, recognise companies of all sizes and from all sectors.
