Mobile Search Stocks; Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), Google, Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG), Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT), Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO ) and MobileBits Corporation (OTCBB: MBIT), Answer the Question
June 28, 2010 – (Investorideas.com newswire) Investorideas.com, an investor research portal that covers multiple leading sectors, reports on new developments in the mobile search market.
As users of iPhones, BlackBerry's and smartphones are being given new apps and new mobile search tools, key players battle for market share.
The play for market share in Mobile Search is fast becoming more diversified based on how users search. One of the key reasons mobile search data is so valuable to marketing departments is that it provides data on user eyeballs as well as geo-location.
Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) CEO, Steve Jobs, made the following provocative statement about search on mobile phones in his recent iPhone OS 4 preview keynote: “Search hasn’t happened on mobile devices”, as reported by SearchEngineLand (http://searchengineland.com/steve-jobs-search-hasnt-happened-on-mobile-devices-39789). He further commented to reporters at the New York Times saying "People are not searching on a mobile device like they are on the desktop."
Not only is Apple taking a jab at Google with these comments, but more importantly Steve Jobs may be looking at trends and sees that a new approach to mobile search requires apps, ads and answers – not just links.
MobileBits (OTCBB: MBIT) has entered the mobile search bringing over ten years of technology know-how and experience in semantic search and the mobile applications marketplace. MobileBits believes the direction of mobile search will require the convergence of mobility and semantics creating a “search driven advertising network”.
The CEO of MobileBits and an ex-BlackBerry veteran, Walter Kostiuk, agrees with Steve Jobs stating recently, “On a desktop people can easily surf the web and browse all kinds of topics at their leisure, however on a smartphone consumers will prefer instant answers to questions encountered while mobile”.
MobileBits maintains that consumers approach search differently on smartphones. Many times, consumers already know what they want to ask; finding keyword search engines (resulting in links) a slow and frustrating experience on their smartphone.
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is also trying to grab market share on the mobile search market, with a new Bing app for the iPhone. The Bing app can access your phone’s camera and scan the barcode on a product and then does an automatic search for it and lets you know where can buy the product online.
Yahoo! has been in the mobile space for some time with Yahoo! OneSearch but has yet to take the lead in mobile search through its menu driven access to content along with its keyword search technology.
Mobile search is getting bigger and better in terms of apps and technology; it’s just a question of understanding the needs of the consumer and who can provide the simplest and most effective solutions.
