London, 27th June 2013 - The organisers of the Infosecurity Europe Show have welcomed the latest Ponemon Institute report – which shows organisations are more confident about transferring sensitive data to the cloud – saying that the use of authentication and encryption technologies has allowed companies to secure their data as it flows to and from the cloud computing resource.

According to Claire Sellick, Group Director of the Infosecurity Portfolio for Reed Exhibitions, the organisers of the event, the Ponemon report – which was commissioned by Thales – highlights the fact that CSOs, CISOs and their security teams are becoming a lot more aware of what effective security technology can do for them – and how it can allow an IT department to actually do more with less budget and resources.

“This report – which spans more than 4,000 organisations in seven countries – highlights a growing understanding of the security technology that underpins an effective cloud data governance strategy in a large organisation - and how the use of encryption keys allows only the data owner to have access to a given set of information,” she said.

“It’s excellent news to hear that more than half of respondents said their organisation now transfers sensitive or confidential data to the cloud – an increase of around 10% on last year’s report. We believe that education is central to this increasing pick-up on advanced cloud usage and this is why we recorded a record 13,200 visitors (up 6% on 2012), many of whom attended for two days at this year’s Infosecurity Europe Show,” she added.

“Visitors also benefited from 31 sessions in the Business Strategy Theatre, 31 sessions in the Technical Theatre, 14 in the Information Security Exchange, 17 IT security workshops as well as 24 seminars in the Technology Showcase Theatre. We continue to invest in our free education program, which is second-to-none in Europe.”
