Brigham Exploration Announces Additional High Rate Completions in Rough Rider and Provides Operational Update
Brigham Exploration Company (NASDAQ:BEXP) announced that its operated Jackson 35-34 #1H and Owan-Nehring 27-34 #1H produced approximately 3,540 (3,064 Bopd and 2.86 MMcf/d) and 2,513 (2,215 Bopd and 1.79 MMcf/d) barrels of oil equivalent, respectively, from the Bakken formation during their early 24 hour flow back periods. Brigham maintains an approximate 62% working interest in the Jackson and an approximate 49% working interest in the Owan-Nehring.
The Jackson and the Owan-Nehring were both completed with 30 frac stages, ceramic proppant and perf and plug. Brigham's 12 long lateral high frac stage Bakken and Three Forks wells have averaged an early peak 24 hour production rate of approximately 2,371 barrels of oil equivalent.
Importantly, the Owan-Nehring represents Brigham's southwestern most well in its Williams County, North Dakota acreage position. The Owan-Nehring is approximately 5 miles to the southwest of its Erickson 8-17 #1H well and approximately 8 miles to the south of its Lee 16-21 #1H. Thus far, Brigham's 10 long lateral high frac stage wells in its Rough Rider project area have averaged an early peak 24 hour rate of approximately 2,428 barrels of oil equivalent.
The following table summarizes Brigham's long lateral high frac stage well completions.

Brigham's rapid pace of development in its core operated Ross and Rough Rider project areas in Mountrail, Williams and McKenzie Counties is proceeding with one well currently fracing, four wells currently waiting on completion, one well drilling and three locations rigging up to commence drilling operations. All five of Brigham's wells currently fracing / waiting on completion are anticipated to be completed with approximately 30 frac stages.
Bud Brigham, the Chairman, President and CEO, stated, "Our staff continues to enhance both drilling and completion efficiencies and techniques, delivering exceptional operational results. For example, our most recent well, the Jerome Anderson 15-10 #1H, took only 18 days from spud to reach total a depth of 19,350 feet, which is an improvement from our typical well drilling days of 22 to 26 days."
Bud Brigham continued, "Our four operated rigs and near continuous completion operations are anticipated to allow us to bring on line to sales approximately four gross operated wells per month, which will positively impact both our reserve and production growth. This level of activity should allow us to drill initial wells on our de-risked acreage in our Ross and Rough Rider project areas easily prior to any material lease term expirations. Further, this activity also positions us to subsequently drill up to five additional Bakken and Three Forks wells per spacing unit."
Bud Brigham concluded, "In addition, our belief that we've delineated prime development acreage west of the Nesson Anticline continues to be reinforced by other operators. There are currently four third party operated rigs drilling proximate to our Rough Rider project area and several wells waiting on completion. Additionally, a key Mountrail County operator is actively permitting locations in and around Rough Rider. The same operator has also spud a Bakken well on the eastern edge of our Ghost Rider acreage position in Roosevelt County, Montana, where we control a substantial acreage position and expect to commence our own operated Bakken well during the first half of 2010. Finally, an operator with a sizeable acreage position to the northeast of our Rough Rider acreage has indicated a well will test the prospectivity of the Three Forks. The planned well is tentatively scheduled to commence in February. We anticipate commencing our own Three Forks test in Rough Rider during the first half of 2010."
