ISACA, a global nonprofit professional association, invites public comment on the exposure drafts of COBIT 5: The Framework and COBIT 5: Process Reference Guide. Both documents are now available at www.isaca.org/cobit5exposure and the exposure period will remain open through 31 July.

According to an announcement at ISACA’s recent World Congress in Washington DC, COBIT 5 will be a major evolution of the globally recognized COBIT guidance, incorporating the most up-to-date thinking in enterprise governance and management techniques. Enterprises of all sizes around the world have implemented COBIT to reduce IT-related risks and increase confidence in the information provided by IT, enable clear policy development and good practice for IT management, increase the value they attain from IT and manage compliance.

 “COBIT’s value is in large part due to the collaborative development process that brings together the talents and expertise of industry leaders around the world,” said Derek Oliver, CISA, CISM, CRISC, Ph.D., DBA, CITP, FBCS, FISM, MInstISP, co-chair of the COBIT 5 Task Force and CEO of Ravenswood Consultants Ltd. “We encourage IT and business professionals to actively participate in this major update to COBIT and help drive the direction of this important global initiative.”

COBIT 5 will build and expand on COBIT 4.1 by connecting with other major frameworks, standards and resources, including ITIL, ISO, ISF, OECD, AICPA and NIST, and integrating other ISACA guidance—including Val IT, Risk IT, the IT Assurance Framework and the Business Model for Information Security (BMIS)—into one cohesive and comprehensive picture. It will help enterprises ensure they can have trust in, and obtain and value from, their information systems.

“COBIT 5 will be based on sound enterprise governance principles and will help organizations manage constantly evolving operational risks and stay on top of increasing regulatory compliance requirements,” said John Lainhart, CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC, co-chair of the COBIT 5 Task Force and partner at IBM Global Business Services. “It builds and expands on COBIT’s 15-year history and is being developed by senior IT and business leaders around the world to ensure that it meets stakeholders’ current needs and expectations.”

ISACA received nearly 3,000 comments from more than 600 business and IT professionals during last year’s public exposure period for the draft design paper of COBIT 5. More than 92 percent of respondents reported that the proposed updates to COBIT would be valuable or very valuable.
