Lockheed Martin's Helicopter-based Missile Detection System Passes U.S. Navy Review Milestone

Electronic warfare system provides surveillance and countermeasure capabilities

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Sept. 5, 2017 -- The Advanced Off-Board Electronic Warfare (AOEW) system, developed by Lockheed Martin ( NYSE: LMT), passed Preliminary Design Review on schedule, demonstrating outstanding sustained performance. The AOEW system will provide MH-60 helicopters with enhanced electronic warfare surveillance and countermeasure capabilities against anti-ship missile (ASM) threats

On August 30th  Raytheon (NYSE: RTN)  announced one of their -built Standard Missile-6 intercepted a medium-range ballistic missile target at sea in its final seconds of flight, after being fired from the USS John Paul Jones.

The SM-6 missile can perform anti-air warfare, anti-surface warfare and – now – even more advanced ballistic missile defense at sea.

"Earlier this year, our customer requested an enhanced capability to deal with a sophisticated medium-range ballistic missile threat," said Mike Campisi, Raytheon's SM-6 senior program director. "We did all this – the analysis, coding and testing – in seven months; a process that normally takes one to two years."

The company said,” This was the third time that the SM-6 missile successfully engaged a ballistic missile target in its terminal phase. It was first tested in a successful flight test mission in August 2015, and then again in late 2016.”

 

Axon (NASDAQ: AAXN) closed on Tuesday’s session up at $21.98, rising 0.25 (1.15%) and then moved another 2,46 % after hours to $22.52 . The stock retreated with several other defense stocks in Wednesday’s trading session creating a buying opportunity for investors thinking long term in the sector.
