US Gold Corp.’s veteran geologist-explorer Dave Mathewson, says that the company’s Keystone property has yielded promising results from recent drilling and that the success of neighboring mines may signify similar success for the district.

“We have already begun drilling. Last year we drilled five aggressive vertical core holes,” he said. “One of the things we are seeing is that the entire district is broadly prospective at this time.”

Mathewson said that “those five holes led to some very interesting features” and pointed out that the host rock, which contains the deposit, is relatively close to the surface which means less drilling through the non-prospective upper plate rock package above it.

“One of the very good things that has happened is we have identified the host at much shallower levels than we had originally anticipated,” he said. He also said “the lower plate that we’re seeing” is “very prospective looking.”

Mathewson, who has been in the business for over 35 years, commands great respect from his team. Edward Karr, the President, CEO and Chairman of US Gold Corp, explained Mathewson’s vitality to the company.

“Dave Mathewson is really one of the premier exploration geologists in Nevada and North America,” he said. “He has a real methodology that he goes through for exploration success time and time again. He likes to identify these real grassroots opportunities and then he comes in with modern exploration techniques.”

He also emphasized the importance of controlling the totality of the district, which US Gold Corp. now does.

“We recently acquired the entire Keystone district. This was led by me mostly through my own claims. I had some existing claims in that area since 2002 and adding the rest of the claims we have the entire district now locked up,” he said. “To have the entire district, within which to explore, under one’s control--you can then apply some broader geophysics, geochemistry and get the context much more importantly and beneficially to the more focused exploration.”

Mathewson also pointed out the success of nearby rivals who occupy the same trend, and how that bodes well for Keystone.

“Barrick is our nearest neighbor and they have a major operation in what they call the Cortez district, which includes the Pipeline deposit and Cortez Hills. They produce about a million ounces a year from that area,” he said. “We can see their operation very well from where we’re located and we happen to be along the same trend, in some of the same rocks and some of the same system appearances exist at Keystone as we see at Cortez.”
