IXYS Introduces High Power Density Schottky Diodes in Miniature Surface Mount (SMD) Packages for Higher Energy Efficiency

IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ: IXYS) announces the expansion of its Schottky diode product families to include the small SMA and SMB SMD packages. With these miniature packages (with voltage ratings of 40V, 60V and 100V), the devices offer high power density especially for portable products. With the introduction of these SMD products, IXYS makes a further step to supply customers with a wide range of solutions for power semiconductors - from Watts to Megawatts. Naturally building on the recognized high power expertise of IXYS, it has been a natural extension of its product portfolio to penetrate new power management applications in the telecommunications, computing, medical, industrial and consumer markets. The product family with these packages are Schottky diodes with voltage rating from 40V up to 100 V. Rectifiers with Schottky barriers are ideally suited for power applications having high switching frequencies and low voltage rectification with low energy losses. Combined with the advantages of the small standardized packages, SMA and SMB, the customer is able to achieve a compact design with improved power performance at the lowest cost.

Typical applications are battery powered chargers and circuits, solar powered battery charging, solar cell panel bypass protection, power supplies, DC/DC converters and polarity protection or ‘ORing’-circuits for multiple supply voltages.
