Homelanddefensestocks.com Reports on Sector Following One-Year Anniversary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security

POINT ROBERTS, Wash., March 04, 2004 – www.Homelanddefensestocks.com, a global investment research portal for the Homeland Defense and Security Sector is pleased to provide investors news, information, public company profiles and developing trends in the sector. Following the one-year anniversary of the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, government and industry purchasing have significantly impacted companies in the sector. Federal funding for homeland security tripled since 2001, increasing to an estimated $30.5 billion. While reviewing the accomplishments for the past year, Secretary Tom Ridge discussed the need for new technologies and tools to address ongoing security concerns. Initiatives and goals for the next year include developing next generation biological and chemical detectors to detect dangerous pathogens. Additionally, Border and Port Security continues to be an area of key concern as 500 million people, 130 million motor vehicles, 2.5 million railcars, and more than 11 million containers are processed at the border, annually. In the past year new initiatives and technologies were implemented to address border and port security. The DHS plans over the next 12 months to expand and enhance current security measures, while still allowing legitimate commerce across borders.

How does the current and future spending impact revenues in public companies?
A key example of a small emerging Homeland Security company that has realized the benefit of increased spending in the sector is Markland Technologies (OTCBB: MRKL - www.marklandtech.com), an integrated homeland security company, announced revenue results for the second quarter of fiscal 2004, ended December 31, 2003 of $3,256,771 representing a significant increase of 964% compared to the $306,724 in revenue reported for the first quarter of fiscal 2004. CEO/Chairman Robert Tarini stated, "The Chemical Detector and Border Security business areas performed extremely well for us and we expect that they will continue to do so. We also expect that our Advanced Technologies Division will begin to produce increased revenues during the remainder of this fiscal year and beyond.”

InVision has realized dramatic swings in its annual revenue as government spending on their technologies spiked following 911, then decreased and is now anticipated to increase for 2005. The Company expects 2004 revenues of $310 million, compared to $416.5 million in 2003 and numbers for 2005 are projected to improve again from the previous year as transportation security budgets increase.

Numerous companies in the sector have realized dramatic shifts in revenue growth as a direct result of government spending. The key for investors is to try to track what companies will benefit in the future, and what companies will lose market share as technologies are replaced and become obsolete.
