Clinical Technology Organisation the ClinPhone Group – which provides telephone and Internet-based solutions for the clinical trial industry – has been ranked as a top performer in this year's Deloitte Fast 50 – the fifth year in a row it has made the coveted listing.

Nottingham, UK-based ClinPhone is a regular performer in the ranking and appeared in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. It's ranking of eighth position in this year's list is third time it has appeared in the regional Top Ten, having finished third in 1999 and 6th in 2000. Now in its sixth year, the Fast 50 programme tracks the growth rates of technology companies operating in the telecommunications, hardware, software and biotechnology markets across seven regions in the UK and Ireland. It is co-sponsored by UK law firm and technology specialist, Pinsent Curtis Biddle, and the London Stock Exchange.

The ranking itself is based on percentage growth in turnover from 2000 to 2002 and over that period ClinPhone recorded impressive growth of 215%. Turnover is also expected to soar this year to over £26million.

ClinPhone continues to be one of the country's best performing 'young' companies. It is now the largest and most experienced technology provider in the pharmaceutical industry having supported more than 900 clinical trials (of which more than 300 are currently live) in over 80 countries and almost 70 languages. The workforce has grown from just a handful in the company's early days to more than 380 today. It also has no less than 15 coveted preferred supplier agreements and its system handles in excess of 90,000 calls per month.

Commenting on the company's success, the 15th major accolade it has enjoyed in the last three years, ClinPhone Director of Marketing and Business Development, Patrick Hughes explained: "We have been ranked in every Fast 50 that we have entered which shows an unprecedented consistency in terms of growth and success. Most Top 10 companies on the list are start-ups, which have grown very quickly in their early years and hence posted phenomenal percentage returns.

“ClinPhone celebrated 10 years in business this year and has consistently grown revenues every single quarter since its formation in 1993. This is down to the vision of its founders and the enthusiasm of its staff and ClinPhone shows no signs of slowing down.”

Chris Robertson, partner in charge of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications sector at Deloitte in Birmingham, commented: “We believe the growth and development of new technology businesses are the engines that fuel economic success and we are committed to supporting emerging technology businesses like the ClinPhone group in the Midlands.

“The expansion of a series of technology clusters in the region is an exciting development for the midlands. These business clusters have the effect of creating technology ecosystems and providing vital infrastructure for long-term sustainable growth of large technology companies. Their proliferation bodes well for further strengthening the region's technology industry that is often overlooked.”

The Fast 50 ranking was started in San Jose, the centre of Silicon Valley, California in 1995 and quickly became the growth benchmark of success in the USA. It has now expanded world wide to incorporate nine countries plus 19 individual programmes in the USA alone. International regions include the UK, Canada, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, South Africa, Israel, Central Europe, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
