New Advances Lithium Research

This past Friday Murdock Capital, House Mountain Partners and Discovery Investing hosted a symposium devoted to questions surrounding critical metals. Six companies presented and keynote speakers also presented. The companies were Focus Metals (FMS TSXV, graphite), Rock Tech Lithium (RCK TSXV), Texas Rare Earth Resources (TRER PK), Great Western Minerals Ltd (GWG TSXV, rare earth elements) and Medallion Resources (MDL TSXV). The Great Convergence

Here we are in the New Year. It is also a year of a new dynamic. You can see it almost everywhere including, most recently, Egypt, Tunisia, Lebanon and the Ivory Coast. China again is newly flexing her muscles and defining a new relationship with the West.

It is a world of convergence of incomes and divergence of growth rates between developing and developed countries. This year (last week) we served as Chairman of the first Cambridge House/Commerce Resources Critical Metals Symposium. This was a most interesting event for two days in Vancouver. The room was full both days of the symposium. I think this might have been the first time Japanese, Chinese, European, Canadian and American views on the Rare Earth conundrum were presented as well as those on a number of metals outside the 15 or so rare earth elements.

Senesco Technologies

This past week Senesco Technologies (SNT AMEX) filed its first investigational new drug application (IND) with the US FDA. This is a milestone in the progression of the company from primarily an agricultural focus to a life-sciences company focused on treating cancer, diabetes and cytokine related diseases. The company will enter the clinic in a phase 1B/2A trial once the application is approved. We understand that the Mayo Clinic initially, and possibly other facilities, will test the effectiveness of SNT’s new lead drug candidate SNS01 – T.

CHANGE: DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGY AND CRITICAL METALS

We just returned from rainy Vancouver. I was honored to be the Chairman of the first Critical Metals symposium run jointly by Cambridge House and Commerce Resources. Both Joe Martin’s Cambridge House and Dave Hodges’ Commerce teams did an excellent job of organizing this symposium. If you have the opportunity you should attend the next symposium. 27 companies presented in a two day format. We had presentations from Chinese authorities as well as Japanese, Americans and Canadians. The highlight for me was the evident fact that the mining world is changing. Nowhere is it more evident than in the extractive resource industries that disruptive technology is changing our world.
