Yesterday on CNBC, Mark Spitznagel, chief investment officer for fund manager Universa Investments L.P., made a scary prediction. He warned that the S&P 500 could lose 40% of its value in the next couple of years.

He went on to point out several facts and figures that led to this prediction. He specifically said, "there is a 20% chance of a well-over 40% correction in the S&P 500 within the next few years."

CNBC even had viewers voting on this black swan event.

So will the S&P 500 drop down to 760?

agricultureThe financial markets had a horrible day yesterday. There's no way of sugarcoating it. The Dow closed below 11,900 and both the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 ended about 1.75% lower.

Know what started to climb in after-hours trading?

Grains... Agricultural commodities like corn, wheat and soybeans. This is good news for grains. They had been sliding for a number of days because of lower energy costs. Some stabilization could mean investments in grains are in for a bounce.

gasoline pricesYou know, gasoline prices are supposed to climb as we head into summer, but things are getting a bit ridiculous!

Gasoline prices are up nearly $1.06 a gallon from last year, and it's not even summer yet.

Why is this happening? Well, the Arab nations of OPEC are fighting...

OPEC decided not to produce more crude oil. Or rather, Iran and its cohorts blocked Saudi Arabia's efforts to try to boost production.

Aside from the crummy effect this had on crude oil prices just after the meeting last Wednesday, there are some bigger issues coming to the surface.
