Leverages price-performance advantage and broad product portfolio to secure multi-million dollar project
Hemel Hempstead, 2nd December , 2008 – 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announced it has won an exclusive multi-million-dollar contract to provide the Government of Israel with advanced core and edge networking solutions for its new LAN infrastructure project. The multi-year agreement is part of the Government’s plans to build a modern, cutting-edge network to support its growing online initiatives.
Upon evaluating the features, functionality, service and support levels and cost of comparable products from HP ProCurve, Nortel Networks and Alcatel-Lucent, the Government determined that 3Com provided the best value for an end-to-end solution. 3Com also differentiated its solution with its unique network management system that enables IT personnel to efficiently manage all aspects of the network with a single tool rather than multiple, unconnected devices.
“More and more organisations like the Government of Israel are recognising that they no longer have to pay a premium for high-performance core and edge network infrastructure solutions,” said President and Chief Operating Officer Ron Sege. “They deserve high-quality solutions and ultra-responsive support at a lower price point, particularly in today’s economic environment. 3Com once again separated ourselves from the competition by delivering exceptional business value and higher performance.”
The 3Com direct-touch sales team in Israel worked closely with channel partner Harel Computers and Communication LTD to win the business. The Israeli government will deploy the following 3Com core and edge networking products and services:
3Com® Switch 8800s – modular core switches for highest performance, security and granular control for non-stop availability of critical applications;
3Com Switch S7900Es – modular core switches, which provide the highest availability in the core of the network;
3Com Switch 5500s, 4800s, 4500s and 4200s – stackable switches that ensure flexibility, space saving and maximum connectivity at the network edge;
IMC – a fully integrated, intelligent, end-to-end management platform, and
24x7 4-hour on-site hardware replacement throughout the entire duration of the contract, with training and certification of 150 GOI system engineers across the country.
In addition to the price-performance advantage demonstrated by 3Com, the company’s state-of-the-art networking solutions will also significantly reduce energy costs for the Government of Israel.
