Shear Wind Announces Second 100 Megawatts for Alberta
Mike Magnus, President and CEO of Shear Wind Inc. ("Shear Wind") (TSX VENTURE:SWX) is pleased to announce that Shear Wind has secured a second 100 Megawatt (MW) build-out position on the existing Alberta electrical grid for the Willowridge Project located in Southern Alberta. The Alberta Electric Supply Operator (AESO) confirmed positive conclusions for interconnection to the Alberta Interconnected Electric System (AIES). With the two previously announced projects, Shear Wind now has three projects totalling 260 MW's in build-out positions.
"The Willowridge Project is our second 100 MW project to obtain a position on the Alberta Grid. We anticipate that the 100 MW recently secured by Willowridge will be followed by continued favourable decisions on our other applications that total 600 MW's which Shear Wind has filed with AESO," Magnus says.
"Shear Wind is accelerating its efforts to generate clean electricity in Alberta that will create valuable carbon credits to help meet the future demands of the provincially regulated Alberta Offset System."
"This is very positive news from AESO regarding a 100 MW position on the Alberta electrical grid" says Magnus. "Shear Wind is now in due process finalizing our financing plans for the construction of the combined 200 MW of the Glenridge and Willowridge Projects. Subject to securing our financing, we have every indication that these two projects will be commissioned and generating electricity by the end of 2010 and early 2011."
"The three projects -Glen Dhu, in Nova Scotia, Glenridge and Willowridge Projects in Alberta represent over 15% of Shear Wind's development pipeline, and these three successes demonstrate our commitment to enhancing shareholder value, which we feel is significantly undervalued based on our existing development pipeline."
Shear Wind has an active pipeline in excess of 1500 Megawatts (MW) of wind power properties strategically positioned across Canada for access to both domestic and Northeast US markets. Shear Wind's projects are located in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
