Valence Technology Brings Intelligent Batteries to Smart Grid Community of the Future

Valence Technology (NASDAQ: VLNC) today announced it has been selected as the preferred residential/community battery technology provider for the “Smart Grid Community of the Future,” the first smart grid solar powered residential development in Texas, the Houston-area master planned community of Discovery at Spring Trails. Utilizing its lithium phosphate battery design, including intelligent Command & Control logic, Valence Technology will supply dynamic energy systems for the individual smart grid residences containing electric vehicle charging stations and smart appliances. Valence Technology’s energy solutions will be used to support a smart-energy practice known as “peak shaving,” whereby smart appliances like dishwashers and washing machines are efficiently utilized during peak demand hours.

Lithium-Ion Battery Maker EnerDel Enters Utility Energy Storage Market, Will Supply New DOE-Backed Smart Grid Program

Advanced lithium-ion battery maker EnerDel will enter the utility-scale energy storage market, supplying batteries for a major new smart grid program announced yesterday by the US Department of Energy. EnerDel will build the batteries for five one-megawatt power systems that will be used by Portland General Electric (PGE) - a pioneer in smart grid technology deployment -- to help manage peak demand and smooth the variations in power from renewable sources like wind and solar.

"Energy storage is a key component of the smart grid, as well as a crucial tool for enhancing both the reliability and the availability of renewable but often intermittent energy sources like wind and solar," said Cyrus Ashtiani, Chief Technology Officer at EnerDel.

Hydrogenics Announces $5 Million of Electrolyzer Orders in Saudi Arabia and Algeria

Hydrogenics Corporation (TSX:HYG)(NASDAQ:HYGS), a leading developer and manufacturer of hydrogen generation and fuel cell products, today announced that it has received orders for electrolyzers worth, in aggregate, approximately $5 million from Groupe Cevital of Algeria and the Obeikan Investment Group of Saudi Arabia. These Hydrogenics HySTAT units, expected to be delivered in late 2009 and early 2010, will be used to produce high-quality hydrogen for vegetable oil processing and glass production.

The Maya 300, powered by Electrovaya's lithium Ion SuperPolymer(R) battery, was extremely well received with over 200 Global press and Television broadcasts, and included national media such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, Toronto Star, Fox TV, ABC, CNN, NBC, CBC and CBS.

The Electric car was also advertised on July 6, 2009 on the front page of the Wall Street Journal in conjunction with the Maryland Science Center program and is one of the first Lithium Ion powered electric cars commercially available in North America.
